What's the greatest Pinocchio movie? 

"A.I. Artifical Intelligence" and "The Adventures of Pinnochio" Essay

Assignment: Compare the "A.I. Artificial Intellgence" movie to the original film of Pinnochio in a 2-page paper 

Notes for Essay: 

  • David (the robot developed by Dr. Hobby) and Pinnochio both wish upon living a normal life 
  • Both Pinnochio and David were manufactured by intelligent designers
  • Pinnocio and David participated in numerous adevntures to determine what their meaning is in life, and they were both taught many lessons from these experiences
  • David and Pinnochio both dealt with social criticism from their peers and soceity because they were so unique from other indiviudals. 
  • David and Pinnochio faced similar problems when they felt threatened by those around them. They would both respond violently when they felt someone was putting them in danger
    • David tried drowning Martin because his coding instructed him to do so, after his robotic system felt threatened by the love and attention Martin recieved from Monica and Henry. Afterwards, David was abandoned by Monica and Henry because they felt scared of him which left him all alone. 
    • Pinnochio killed the cricket because he did not like the controlling demands from the cricket, so he murdered the cricket and fled to explore the world alone. 
  • Another similarity I noticed between the two films was the connection between the Blue Fairy, Pinnochio, ad David
    • David felt inspired by Pinnochios story with the Blue Fair and how she turned him into a real human boy 
    • David then began looking for the fairy because his one and only dream was to be a real human, just like Pinnochio
  • During the final scenes of the film, David and Teddy got stuck in water and found Gepettos workshop along with the Blue fairy
    • They got trapped in this workshop for 2000 years until advanced robots were able to rescue David and grant him a second chance to see Monica and Henry before the film ended 
    • This is similar to Pinnochio's second chance to save his father (Gepetto) after the fairy turned him into a real live boy.

My Ideas & Observations:  Freder serves as the "Mediator" between the Head, Hand, and Heart (the heart being the mediator) Freder can transition between worlds, revealing to him the horros of the underground world, which motivates him to be the mediator.  Maria serves as the hand, because she cannot move between both worlds like Freder, yet she guides him to bringing equality between the social classes.  Maria spoke with the working men in the chambers, telling them the story of the Babel. She inspires them to bring equality amongst everyone and explains how, giving them hope .... which is how she guided Freder to know how to bring everyone together.  Rotwang was another intresting character along with Maria --- he played the cliche role of the mad scientist with a devious plan  Rotwang had a strong desire to get back at Joh, becuase he was in love with Hel, Joh's wife Hel passed away so Rotwang tried to make a robotic clogne of her; but, before Rotwang made Hel, he c
